I was fortunate enough to catch a busy Rebecca for a coffee and a chat about FizzSodas. Full disclosure, she is also a friend, but that is not why we carry the absolutely amazing Fizz range as they on their own deserve a cool space in our fridge. In this post Rebecca gives us a closer look into the scenes behind Fizz Sodas. 

“At Fizz Sodas, our journey began with a simple yet passionate idea: to create a great-tasting,  and healthier, soda  here in Vietnam. Coming from New Zealand, we are used to drinking craft sodas and we noticed that they were not available  in Vietnam. We decided to create  a better soda  that not only tastes great  but also aligns with our values: natural ingredients, authentic flavours, and a fun, refreshing vibe”.

Their motivation was twofold. First, they wanted to provide healthier, non-alcoholic options for families and individuals looking for something more flavourful and natural. Secondly, with recent law changes promoting zero-tolerance for alcohol consumption when driving, the demand for sophisticated, non-alcoholic beverages has skyrocketed. They saw this as the perfect opportunity to introduce premium sodas to locals and expatriates alike – sodas that are both enjoyable and mindful of health and law.

Collaborating closely with Rooster Beverages, a local production partner, they developed  flavours that truly represent Vietnam’s rich tropical heritage. The core range of four flavours is inspired by the vibrant flavours of the region: Lemongrass Lemonade, Passion Orange, Tamarind and Vanilla and Very Berry.

To infuse a distinct Vietnamese twist, they incorporated local ingredients to traditional flavors like lemongrass to enhance the lemonade, and hibiscus (abundant in Vietnam) which adds a deep red hue and a hint of tartness to the mixed berry flavour. For their orange soda, they introduced passion fruit, offering a vivid tropical flavour that sets it apart from traditional orange sodas.

Fizz also ventured into creating an Asian-inspired cola by using sweet and sour tamarind, a staple in Vietnamese cuisine, and adding a  dash of vanilla for depth and creaminess. These thoughtful combinations allow them to craft sodas that are authentic, vibrant, and uniquely Vietnamese.

“At Fizz Soda, we pride ourselves on using natural ingredients. Our fruit-based syrups rely on local fruit concentrates, ensuring consistent quality and taste season after season. We use natural fruit in our drinks resulting in significantly less sugar and a lower calorie content – just 74 calories per bottle for Very Berry, compared to about 139 calories in a commercial soda”.

They emphasize no artificial preservatives or chemicals, only natural preservatives, making their sodas a pure and safe choice for consumers. The focus on sustainability extends through their packaging too: choosing glass bottles over plastic, which not only enhances the drinking experience with a retro feel but also eliminates microplastic concerns.

The dedicated local Fizz team allows them to develop new products on demand, ensuring continuous innovation. They are proud to be the first premium soda brand in Vietnam, crafted with care, quality, and a commitment to the environment. Currently, Fizz is excited to bring their innovative flavours to market via ByNature and various stores around Ho Chi Minh City.
