Farming during the rainy season

Rain is good for plants, but too much rain becomes a serious problem. Some vegetables and fruits cannot even grow in the rainy season because of their waterlogged nature. All-natural fruits and vegetables are a testament to the weather and climate. Because you can plant and enjoy the right taste of these vegetables without any pesticides just in the right season.

Rain in the Central region comes later than the South of Vietnam; usually starting from September and ending in February of the following year. Depending on the year, rainstorms may appear earlier or later. Rain in the Central region occurs a lot with very heavy rainfall that can reach 3,000mm, and the rain can last continuously day in and day out. September and October are the beginning of the rainy season, the climate is still lingering in the transition period. During the rainy season in Central Vietnam, there are a large number of storms and floods.

Rain in our partner farms

Da Lat is located on the Lam Vien Plateau, the highest in the Central Highlands. So, basically, Da Lat is located in the Central region. This is also one of the largest vegetable growing areas in the country. The rainy season in DaLat is known for common storms that greatly affect crops – especially leafy greens.

Tomatoes in the rainy season

It’s been raining a lot the past week in Dalat and the ByNature’s partner farms have suffered loss of particular tomatoes and lettuce. They have been destroyed by the heavy continuous rain and subsequently the flooding.

Usually, September and October are the peak rainy months in DaLat. It rains everyday and quite a lot of the produce ready to be harvested was damaged. Left are bare tomato trees. The lettuce was almost completely destroyed, bruised and waterlogged.

But after the rain comes the sun! Despite the harsh weather, the farmers are still optimistic and always have a smile on their faces: overcoming the consequences of the storm, letting the plants recover and planting new seeds to prepare for the next crop. Allowing us to continue to bring you – our customer – fresh, clean and safe produce.
