The American company Monsanto recently lost a $289 million lawsuit claiming they failed to tell people of the dangers of Roundup? Monsanto lost the lawsuit to a local school gardener from California. The man was regularly exposed to Roundup and eventually got cancer. He was able to prove that Roundup is carcinogenic, and that Monsanto did not properly warn people about these dangers. The fact that a powerful corporation like Monsanto lost a lawsuit to a single individual should make us pay attention. There are now more than four thousand people lining up with their own law suits; people with cancer tied to Roundup.
GMO seeds used in modern day farming are designed to work with chemical herbicides like glyphosate. The build-up of glyphosate in crops is suspected as a leading cause of a spike in cases of autism, cancer, and long-term illnesses.
Think about this: If you have a chemical that is designed to kill pests and weeds, would you want to have that in your body? My answer is a clear NO. Besides, it has no nutritional value…
So how wide spread is glyphosate showing up in foods we eat? Well, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently did a study of oat cereals, oatmeal, granola and snack bars. Glyphosate above the levels deemed safe (160 ppb) were found in 31 of 45 products. How about some Cheerios with milk and more than 1,000 ppb for breakfast!
Research studies have shown glyphosate to cause shorter pregnancies and lower birth weight. To make things worse, the kids that were born had a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
So, what can you do to protect yourself and avoid the dangers of herbicides and pesticides? First and foremost, you should buy and consume foods from someone you know and trust; foods that are certified organic (beware of fake certifications!) or guaranteed free from chemicals. Eat organic and all-natural wholefoods as much as possible. Leafy green vegetables will support and protect your liver from toxins. A healthy liver can process and bind carcinogens and help your body excrete them. Milk Thistle is well known to support liver detoxification. Chinese Schisandra has a similar effect.
