The Clean 15

The list with your clean 15 fruits and vegetables is published every spring by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), it changes slightly every year and is based on produce grown in the US, but we still find that it serves as a good guidance for other parts of the world when it comes to choosing your produce – your greens matter!

If you ever find yourself in the situation of not having an abundance of choice when it comes to picking your pesticide free produce, you need not worry too much when it comes to this list of The Clean 15 products. These products have the lowest concentrations of pesticides.

Here is the 2021 clean 15 list:

  1. Avocados
  2. Sweet Corn
  3. Pineapples
  4. Onions
  5. Papayas
  6. Frozen sweet peas
  7. Eggplant
  8. Asparagus
  9. Broccoli
  10. Cabbage
  11. Kiwifruit
  12. Cauliflower
  13. Mushrooms
  14. Honeydew
  15. Cantaloupe

What is really scary and something we should all take into consideration is the fact that the USDA before testing, washes the testing produce as one would at home – that is not the scary part – after this process they proceeded to testing and found harmful chemical pesticides in close to 70% of non-organic fresh produce! That said some produce is still be within the government-mandated limits, but do we really want any pesticides at all if we can avoid it?

You may recall our blog post on The Dirty Dozen, those are the vegetables you really would want to avoid and buy from a reliable source. Since that blog post the list has been updated with 2021 produce.
